WebDwight Lowry was born in Pembroke, North Carolina in 1957. After playing three sports in high school, he went on to play baseball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1977 until 1980, when he was drafted by the MLB’s Detroit Tigers. Lowry played catcher for 11 seasons of pro baseball, including four in the major leagues. WebDwight Lowry made his major league debut as part of the great 1984 Detroit Tigers who won 104 games and won the 1984 World Series. He was a backup catcher who appeared in 32 games that year. He came back in 1986 to hit .307 for the Tigers, the highest average on the team (for anyone with 50+ at-bats) except for Johnny Grubb. the otto frick story
